There are two good ways to connect Google Ads to ChatGPT or Claude. Google publishes an official Google Ads MCP server for developers, run locally with your own credentials. datavessel’s MCP connector is hosted, signs in with Google, and puts your Google Ads account next to your store’s inventory, Merchant Center feed, Meta Ads and Analytics, with every pause and budget change waiting for your approval. Which one you want depends on whether the questions stay inside Google Ads. The setup on our side is the same as for the store: connect Claude to your store.
Facts about Google’s server are as documented in October 2026; check Google’s developer docs for the current state.
Google’s official Google Ads MCP server
Google ships an official MCP server for Google Ads as part of its developer toolkit, with the source on GitHub. It connects an MCP client to the Google Ads API for reporting and campaign management. Its user is a developer or a technical media buyer: you run it on your machine, configure Google Ads API credentials and a developer token, and point Claude Code, Cursor or Claude Desktop at it. If that is you, it is the right starting point, and there is nothing to pay.
What it cannot see is anything outside Google Ads. It does not know your stock, your feed’s disapprovals, what Meta is spending on the same products, or what the landing page does after the click.
What datavessel’s Google Ads connector does
datavessel exposes twenty Google Ads tools, thirteen reads and seven writes:
- Reads: account performance summary; performance per campaign, ad group, keyword and Performance Max asset group; conversions split by conversion action; product-level performance for Shopping and Performance Max; the search terms report; listing-group filters, meaning which products each asset group targets; account details, manager and client account discovery; and a raw GAQL query for anything the shaped tools do not cover.
- Writes, all behind approval: pause or enable a campaign or ad group, set a campaign’s daily budget, change the bidding strategy, update a keyword’s status or bid, add a campaign-level negative keyword, and create a Search or Shopping campaign, which is always created paused.
The store, Merchant Center, Meta Ads, Analytics and Search Console sit in the same connector. So the questions that matter to a store are one prompt:
- “Which campaigns are sending traffic to products with fewer than five units left?”
- “Which Shopping products are disapproved in Merchant Center and still in an active campaign?”
- “Which search terms spent more than €50 this month with no conversions?”
- “Compare last week’s Google Ads and Meta spend per product against actual revenue”
- “Which Performance Max asset groups target products we have discontinued?”
Each answer can end in a proposal: pause the ad group, add the negative keyword, lower the budget. The proposal arrives with the exact change and the reasoning, on web or mobile, and nothing changes until you approve it. Every decision lands in the ledger.
Connect Google Ads to Claude: step by step
- Sign in at app.datavessel.io and add Google Ads as a source with Google’s sign-in. If you manage client accounts through a manager account, the assistant can list the client accounts under it. Revoke access from your Google account at any time.
- Add the connector to Claude. In Claude Desktop, Settings, then Connectors, add a custom connector with
https://mcp.datavessel.io/mcpand sign in. In Claude Code, add the same URL as an MCP server. - Ask. “Which Google Ads accounts can you see?” then the first real question, usually the search-terms-with-no-conversions one.
Connect Google Ads to ChatGPT
Same server, different door. In the ChatGPT desktop app enable developer mode under Settings, then Connectors, add a custom connector with the same URL, sign in, and the Google Ads tools appear next to your other connectors. The screenshots for steps two and three are in connect ChatGPT to Shopify; they are identical for Google Ads.
From questions to a schedule
Chat answers when you ask. Inside datavessel the same tools run as library agents on a schedule: an Ad Waste sweep that finds spend with no conversions and proposes the pause or the negative keyword, a Google Ads Review and an Account Health Check that report what moved and what is misconfigured, and Winners to Scale, which proposes budget increases on campaigns that earn them. The cross-check with inventory, the ads pointing at sold-out products, is the one most stores turn on first: connect Meta Ads to ChatGPT or Claude and stop ads to out-of-stock products covers the same watch for both platforms.

Which one
Use Google’s server if you are a developer or a technical buyer, the questions stay inside Google Ads, and you are comfortable with API credentials on your machine.
Use datavessel if you run a store or an agency, the questions cross into inventory, feeds, Meta or analytics, you want ChatGPT as well as Claude, or you want pauses and budgets to wait for an approval and leave a record.
Both is common for agencies: the official server for the engineers, datavessel for the account team, isolated per client.
Frequently asked questions
Can I connect Google Ads to ChatGPT?
Yes. ChatGPT’s desktop app accepts custom MCP connectors in developer mode. Add a connector that speaks Google Ads, sign in with Google, and ChatGPT can report on and, with approval, change your campaigns. datavessel is one such connector.
Is there an official Google Ads MCP server?
Yes, published by Google in its developer toolkit with source on GitHub. It runs locally with your Google Ads API credentials and covers Google Ads only.
Can the assistant spend money without me?
Not through datavessel. Every budget change, pause, bid change and campaign creation is a proposal until you approve it, new campaigns are created paused, and every action is in the ledger.
Does it work with a manager (MCC) account?
Yes. The assistant can list the client accounts under your manager account and work each one, which is how agencies use it, with data isolated per client.
Does it cover Performance Max?
Yes: asset-group performance, product-level performance, and the listing-group filters that say which products each asset group targets.
What does it cost?
The connector is included in every plan, including the free one for a single store. Model usage runs through your own ChatGPT or Claude subscription.
The bottom line
Google’s official server settles the developer case. For a store, the useful connection is the one that sees what the campaigns point at, inventory, feed, the other ad platform, and asks before it spends. That is what connecting Google Ads to ChatGPT or Claude through datavessel is for.
