TL;DR: You can connect Shopify to Claude using DataVessel’s MCP server integration. Once connected, ask questions like “What were my top products last week?” or “Show me orders over $100 today” directly in Claude. Setup takes under 5 minutes—no coding required.
If you run a Shopify store, you already know the drill: open the admin panel, navigate through multiple screens, filter data, export to spreadsheets, and repeat. What if you could skip all that and just ask Claude about your store? Now you can connect Shopify to Claude through DataVessel’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration.
This guide walks you through the setup process and shows you what’s possible once your store is connected.
What You Can Do When You Connect Shopify to Claude
Once connected, Claude can query your Shopify store data in real-time. Here are examples of questions you can ask:
- “What were my total sales yesterday?”
- “Show me my top 10 selling products this month”
- “List all orders over $200 from the past week”
- “What’s my average order value this quarter?”
- “Which products are low in stock?”
- “How many new customers did I get last month?”
Claude pulls the data directly from your Shopify store and presents it in a readable format—no dashboard navigation required.
How to Connect Shopify to Claude
The connection works through DataVessel’s MCP server, which acts as a secure bridge between Claude and your Shopify store.
Step 1: Create a DataVessel Account
Go to app.datavessel.io and sign in with your Google account.
Step 2: Connect Your Shopify Store
In the DataVessel dashboard, click “Add Source” and select Shopify. You’ll be redirected to Shopify to authorize the connection. Grant the requested permissions—DataVessel needs read access to your orders, products, and customers.
Step 3: Add DataVessel to Claude
In Claude Desktop or Claude mobile app, add a new MCP connector:
- Open Claude settings and navigate to “Connectors” or “MCP Servers”
- Click “Add Connector”
- Enter the DataVessel MCP URL:
https://mcp.datavessel.io/mcp - Complete the OAuth2 authorization when prompted
That’s it—no manual configuration files or code required. The OAuth flow securely links your DataVessel account (with your connected Shopify store) to Claude.
Step 4: Start Asking Questions
Open Claude and start querying your store. Try: “What were my sales today?” Claude will fetch the data from Shopify and respond with your actual numbers.
Available Shopify Data
The DataVessel integration currently supports:
- Orders — Order details, totals, line items, fulfillment status
- Products — Product info, variants, inventory levels, pricing
- Customers — Customer profiles, order history, contact info (beta)
- Analytics — Sales trends, product performance, customer metrics
Note: The Shopify integration is currently in beta. Some features like customer protected data require additional Shopify app approval.
Security and Privacy
DataVessel uses OAuth for Shopify authentication—your store credentials are never stored. The MCP connection is encrypted, and data is only fetched when you make a query. No store data is cached or stored on DataVessel servers.
You control which data Claude can access through Shopify’s permission settings during the OAuth flow.
Use Cases for Store Owners
Once you connect Shopify to Claude, common workflows become much faster:
- Morning check-ins — “Summarize yesterday’s sales and any orders that need attention”
- Inventory management — “Which products sold out this week?”
- Customer insights — “Who are my top 5 customers by lifetime value?”
- Quick lookups — “Show me order #1234” or “What’s the status of order from john@example.com?”
Instead of clicking through the Shopify admin, you get answers in seconds through conversation.
